Tsunami and volcanic alerts

Before you follow Tsunami and volcanic alerts, you must be made aware that as of this moment, no actual live feed of Tsunami warnings exists in this form. To overcome this, SWAS captures all earthquakes reported over 7.4 on the Richter magnitude scale and displays a tweet that is prefaced with "Potential Tsunami?" and provides a link to more details on the quake.

When you see this warning, and it will not occur very often we assure you, you should immediately check the link attached to the tweet to determine the exact location of the earthquake. If the earthquake has occurred just offshore from your location, you should check other sources immediately to see if a Tsunami warning has been announced, but do so only while moving immediately in the direction of higher ground.
